Like most K-Pop groups, ATEEZ has official positions for all of their members including main vocalists, main dancers, etc. Each of the members are so multi-talented in so many different areas, though, that it’s impossible to limit them all to just their official positions! In fact, some of their positions have changed a bit over the years, so their “official” positions are a little less clear than they used to be. It just goes to show that none of them can really be defined by one or two labels!
However, a couple of years ago, Seonghwa attempted to label each member with their “real” position within the group, and his decisions are both amusing and accurate.

For Hongjoong (whose official positions are leader (captain), main rapper, vocalist, and center in ATEEZ) Seonghwa gave him the title “Pok-Joong”. The phrase translates to “explosive Joong” or “tyrant Joong”, which is a nickname that refers endearingly to Hongjoong when he’s acting particularly “aggressive”. Hongjoong is known to get playfully combative in situations with the other members sometimes, so this nickname makes sense!

For himself, Seonghwa (who has the official positions of lead vocalist, rapper, and visual in ATEEZ) named his “real” position as “the youngest”. This is ironic, given that he’s actually the oldest member of the K-Pop group, but sometimes he has such a pure and innocent aura about him that can make him seem like the youngest member (in a good way!). He’s also the youngest of his siblings with an older brother in his family, so the maknae position comes naturally to him.

Yunho (who has the official position of main dancer and lead vocalist in ATEEZ) was given a “real” position by Seonghwa that should take very little explanation: “Dance teacher”. ATINYs know that Yunho picks up dances the fastest out of all the members, and he is a main dancer of ATEEZ for a reason! It’s no surprise that he likely often helps the others learn their choreographies, because even in a group of such strong performers, he still stands out with his technical skills and accuracy.

Seonghwa’s title for Yeosang shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise either! His official position in ATEEZ is as their lead dancer, sub-vocalist, and visual, but Seonghwa decided that his “real” position in the group is as the “workout-holic”. Yeosang spends a lot of time at the gym (as evidenced by his incredible physique!) so giving this title is definitely one well-suited for the self-proclaimed gym rat.

San (whose official position is as ATEEZ’s lead vocalist, lead dancer, and face of the group) was actually given the “real” position of “visual” by Seonghwa. There are multiple “official” visuals in ATEEZ because, let’s be honest, they’re all stunning, and there’s no denying that San is a gorgeous guy, so he could be in the visual line too! He also tends to draw a lot of attention from people who are unfamiliar with ATEEZ, so it’s an appropriate title for the multi-talented, handsome man.

Mingi‘s “real” position in ATEEZ is an interesting one, and perhaps the most unexpected. He has the official position as the group’s main rapper and main dancer, but Seonghwa actually gave him the title of “vocalist”! Mingi is definitely more well-known for his rapping and dancing abilities, but he isn’t weak when it comes to singing either, and it seems like Seonghwa thought it deserved to be recognized.

Wooyoung (whose official position in ATEEZ is as the main dancer, vocalist, and visual) was given the “real” position of “tension up” by Seonghwa. The reason for this title isn’t totally clear as it wasn’t given an explanation beyond that, but it likely has to do with Wooyoung’s high energy and loud personality! And if that’s the case, it’s definitely accurate, because ATINYs know just how outgoing and expressive Wooyoung is.

Finally, Jongho (whose official position in the group is as their main vocalist and maknae) was given the “real” position of “big brother” by Seonghwa. Even though Jongho is the group’s youngest member, this title does make some sense, because it has been shared by the members numerous times that he’s the most mature among them, so based on that measurement, he does seem like the oldest! In his family, he’s actually the oldest of his siblings with a younger brother (opposite of oldest member Seonghwa!) so that mature aura comes naturally.
None of the vibrant and complex members of ATEEZ can really be described with one title, but Seonghwa definitely did his best!
