Lightsticks have become an integral part of the K-Pop community, and there are few things more satisfying than seeing an ocean of bright lights in the concert audience of your favorite artist. But there was a time that lightsticks weren’t so widely used, and there are a few K-Pop artists who helped them develop into what they are today!
Earlier today, Billboard Korea shared a story on their official Instagram account about the story of how lightsticks came to be. Included in the story are major steps in the development of modern-day lightsticks, and ATEEZ’s LIGHTINY (Ver. 2) is one of those important developments!

From using balloons to show “fan love” during concerts to EXO using the first bluetooth lightsticks followed by the era of customizable lightsticks in the modern day, the story gives a quick glimpse into the history of the iconic merch.
ATEEZ’s LIGHTINY (Ver.2) is included because it became the first lightstick with motion-sensor technology when it was released in 2023.
Here’s a clip of Yeosang explaining this technology.
And here’s the full video of ATEEZ introducing version 2 of LIGHTINY!
ATEEZ is making history in the K-Pop industry in all kinds of ways, even in the case of lightstick technology!
