Some people who aren’t super familiar with ATEEZ‘s members may think that San has always been part of the group’s dance line due to his incredible stage presence and energy, and they might be surprised to learn that in the past, his only “official” position was as lead vocalist! But there’s a reason he was added into the group’s dance line, which was well-deserved by the hard-working idol.

And while he does have a captivating and charismatic energy on stage that gives him such a magnetic presence when he performs, he absolutely deserves his position as the group’s lead vocalist. He has a rich, beautiful voice that is showcased wonderfully in all of ATEEZ’s discography, from their softer ballads to their more hard-hitting tracks.

Not only does he sound great in the group’s recordings, but he’s ridiculously stable and perfectly pitched even while performing their intense choreographies live!

A clip from their Summer Photobook DVD released a couple of years ago shows San’s vocal stability, along with just how well-suited he is to a variety of musical genres — particularly rock, due to the addictive growliness he can sing with.

In the clip, San is seen bouncing around like the energetic goofball he is while he, Jongho, and Mingi do karaoke. With seemingly little effort, despite his unstable movements, he transitions into this beautifully growly voice and stable high note that leaves the other ATEEZ members in awe.

And this isn’t the first time San has shown how much potential he has for rock music. There have been multiple instances on-stage and live of this vocal prowess…

And he also used to be in a band when he was in middle school as a vocalist! His former bandmates also had nothing but positive things to say about San’s musicality and personality.
