As we head into September, let’s take a look at all that happened with ATEEZ in August.
N.A. Tour Wraps Up
The first half of August had ATEEZ finishing up the last of the North American leg of the Towards the Light: Will to Power tour.
They became the second K-Pop group and the first fourth generation K-Pop group to perform at Citi Field Stadium in New York. The show experienced a delay of two hours due to stormy weather conditions, but was able to go ahead. Because of the late start, it was also inevitable that the concert would be violating the noise ordinance in the surrounding area. A few ATINYs reportedly spoke with the stadium staff who said that ATEEZ were ready and willing to pay the fine they’d incur for the noise curfew violation.
During the ending ment of the New York show, Seonghwa gave a speech he prepared regarding the recent losses his family has been through. His grandmother passed at the end of October last year, and his grandfather on the other side of his family passed just before the Oakland concert mid-July. His speech was translated real-time by a translator. Many ATINYs felt emotionally impacted by his words and meaning, which came across so beautifully in that moment. Seonghwa also later shared the full version of what he wrote on his Instagram.
They performed in Washington DC, Toronto, and finished the tour with two shows in Rosemont (Chicago), IL.
For the North American leg of the tour, ATEEZ performed at three stadiums and seven arenas in the U.S. and Canada. ATEEZ was the only K-Pop act to appear on the Billboard BoxScore for July at number 17. They sold over 120,000 tickets for their July shows only.
August reports are still being fully calculated but ATINYs estimate that due to their reportedly 97% sale rate, they performed for over 215,000 people.
Mingi’s Birthday
Mingi celebrated his 25th birthday August 9, which coincided with the Toronto show. The members and fans were given an opportunity to celebrate on stage! He later went live on Youtube to celebrate with ATINYs and have some cake.
Mingi’s Collab with Mirani
In early August, Mirani, a rapper and singer, released the song “Hit Me Up” which featured Mingi. Mingi was credited as a composer and lyricist on the song. “Hit Me Up” is a short and upbeat song that has a fun and colorful music video. Please remember to keep it in mind when making playlists!
GQ Magazine
ATEEZ was featured on the cover of GQ Magazine’s September 2024 issue. The photoshoot took place while the group was in LA for Coachella in April. What’s noteworthy about this is that the feature was not for GQ Korea, but the main branch of GQ. The photo spread was accompanied by a wonderful article as well.
SummerSonic in Japan
ATEEZ performed at a large music festival in Japan called SummerSonic on August 17 & 18. ATEEZ first performed in Osaka, then traveled to Tokyo and performed at the same festival the next day.
ATINY Fanmeeting in Tokyo
ATEEZ held a two-day fanmeeting event in Tokyo on August 21 & 22. It was the same fanmeeting as the one they held in Seoul, but this time, due to the location and language difference, they had a Japanese MC. They performed the same songs, played some games, and performed “Bouncy” as ANITEEZ. They were scheduled to hold another two-day fanmeeting in Osaka, Japan, but it was canceled due to unsafe weather conditions. Japanese fans are still hoping that the fanmeeting will be rescheduled to a later date, but there hasn’t been word from the company as of now.
Hongjoong’s New Song
Hongjoong released a new song he wrote called “Why Do You Love”. The MV accompanying the song included footage of Hongjoong, but also beautifully animated monochrome sketches. Later, in a live on TokToq, Hongjoong revealed that the song was originally called “Why You Love” and had been composed in 2021. He spoke about how the song’s lyrics and meaning didn’t have any basis in his personal life, but rather an alter ego or persona. He wanted to share various feelings and emotions with ATINY that they might not have been able to experience otherwise. The song has not been released on Spotify or Apple Music. So far, like Hongjoong and Mingi’s other solo works, it’s only available on YouTube.
Unexpected Free Time
The members received some unexpected free time due to the canceled fanmeeting in Osaka. They all updated ATINYs either through Instagram or TokToq on what they’ve been up to during the last week of August.
Hongjoong said that he’s participating in a song camp with Eden-ary.
Seonghwa posted a lot of photos from when he went to an Animal Crossing themed aquarium.
Yunho posted an Instagram story where he said he’s heading home to Gwangju, where he went to a waterpark with his whole family.
Yeosang said on a live on TokToq that he’s been resting and playing some games.
He also mentioned that he had a schedule recording something along with Mingi, who said on a live that he also went to the sauna with his mother.
San and his family and Wooyoung and his family went out to dinner together.
Wooyoung went live on TokToq while camping with his mom and brothers.
Jongho posted a video on his Instagram story of him water skiing.
The World: To The End
KQ announced a DVD set called The World: To The End, which will include nearly nine hours of footage across five DVDs. It will include a photobook, photocards, postcards, and most intriguingly, a lore book. Some ATINYs speculate that the lore book will simply be a combination of their already released lore diaries, instead of introducing new lore. The DVD set will be released on October 22, so we’ll be able to find out for sure then. It can be bought through the KQ Shop, Yes 24, Ktown4U, Apple Music, and Aladin.
There is some controversy with the DVD set, however, as the product description does provide a list of events the footage covers. The issue is that none of the Latin American tour is included in the list, not even the Brazilian concert which was ATEEZ’s very first stadium concert. Latam ATINYs have taken to social media to trend the hashtag #KQRespectLatam. ATINYs hope to see some explanation at the very least from KQ in the future, however, since the product is already on sale, it is doubtful that any changes can be made to the final product at this stage.
